Unit 50 Косвенная речь в английском. Reported speech

Косвенная речь – это способ передать слова человека. При этом вы не воспроизводите его речь дословно, а лишь пересказываете ее.
John: “I want to eat”. – прямая речь.
John said he wanted to eat. – Косвенная речь.
При переводе прямой речи в косвенную в английском, мы получаем сложное предложение:

John said … – главное предложение, которое стоит в форме Past Simple.

… he wanted to eat. – придаточное предложение
При переводе прямой речи в косвенную не забывайте о смене грамматических времен согласно таблице:

am/is —> was	(she said) ‘I am playing.’
	—>She said that she was playing.
	(they said to us) ‘The hotel is very nice.’
	—>They told us that the hotel was very nice.
are —> were	(I said) ‘The kids are in the room.’
	—>I said that the kids were in the room.
have/has —> had	(I said to him) I have finished the book.’
	—>I told him that I had finished the book.
can —> could	(Tom said) I can’t help you.’
	—>Tom said that he couldn’t help me.
will —> would	(my friends said to me) ‘The exam will be hard.’
	—>My friends told me that the exam would be hard.
do/does —> did	(I said) ‘Jill doesn’t play tennis.’
	—>I said that Jill didn’t play tennis.
	(he said) ‘I don’t know your name.’
	—>He said that he didn’t know my name.
like —> liked	(Karen said) ‘I like apples.’
	—>Karen said that she liked apples.
go —> went	(they said) ‘We often go to the park.’
	—>They said that they often went to the park.
